About the project

During the programme African and UK professional artists worked together developing their writing and performance skills in a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences. They visited schools and youth groups to mentor and prepare young people for the Power in the Voice competition, culminating in the Grand Finals in February 2008 and the Power in the Voice International Festival in May 2008.

Both the professional artists and the young participants represented a wide range of cultural backgrounds and artistic experience, creating a project that was rich in cultural exchange as well as practical support for writing and performance development. Power in the Voice challenged assumptions and bring people together in an international creative community.

This website provides information about the background to the project and features profiles of some artists and participants. You will find up-to-date news about what has been happening during the programme and exciting upcoming events. The resources page also contains useful links and practical advice from professional artists, based on their own experiences and inspiration, and you can actually speak to artists and participants through the chat facilities.
