Ayob Vania
Ayob is a writer, journalist, poet and performer working in South Africa. He has been actively involved in the performance poetry industry since 2000. He has performed at, co-ordinated and administered, weekly and monthly 'Poets in Da House' poetry sessions at Gandhi Square and the Horror Café, Newtown. In 2003 he was resident poet at the 'Poetry in Lokomotion' poetry sessions. In 2004, as a member of the Seven Poetry Collective, he co-ordinated, wrote and performed in 'The Streets have Lips', a theatrical poetry performance. He has also led numerous school and university poetry workshops.
As a journalist/writer, his feature articles and interviews have appeared in Y-Mag and BKO Magazine, which has also published a number of his poems. Ayob is also the editor-in-chief of the hip hop website www.harambeafrica.com which started as a radio show (the word Harambe is Swahili for lets pull together).
