Dumisani Mhlanga

Dumisani Mhlanga, stage name Imbongi KaZulu Omnyama, is a dub poet, writer and musician.  In 1998 he formed a township theatre group which toured local and rural schools and moved from here to solo poetry performances. He recently formed a music/poetry group, the Mbongi KaZulu Omnyama Ensemble. Dumisani has performed on national television and also received coverage in the local press.

'Through the PIV project I intend to impart the knowledge and skills that I have acquired and also to learn from aspiring poets, actors and musicians.  I wish to produce poets of Albert Nyathi, and Mzwakhle Mbuli's calibre.  To me poetry and music is a way of communicating and expressing emotions. They appeal to the innermost being of the listener and mould one's character'. Dumisani Mhlanga
