Judith Maposa
Judith is a poet and storyteller from Bulawayo.
'Throughout my school years I loved words and appreciated the power and beauty of language. I started working as a proof reader for The Chronicle and eventually became a journalist. My poems and short stories were first published in local newspapers: The Chronicle and The Sunday News from 1997.
I work for the Sunday News as a columnist and have had a poem and short stories published in three 'Short Writings From Bulawayo' anthologies. I have also participated in the Crossing Borders creative writing project facilitated by the British Council. I'm a member of the literary arts organising committee of Intwasa Arts Festival in koBulawayo - an annual arts showcase.
'PIV provides a platform for young artists to express themselves in a medium they best understand. In my experience, children have tended to shun poetry because of the dry and traditional way it has been introduced and delivered to them. Introducing action and energy into poetry encourages the expression to move away from the traditional form... The focus on children in school is most appropriate because the talent is there and identifying and nurturing it at that level ensures that this art form is kept alive'. Judith Maposa
Judith Maposa on Power In The Voice
'The workshop was important as it empowered me to put into perspective what the whole project is about and my role as a mentor in it. I was able to recognise my strengths and weaknesses and feel able to build on this self knowledge, to improve with confidence, what I have learned. I am ready to go out there with the confidence that tools and technique I have learnt during the workshop will unlock an explosion of powerful expression. Charlie Dark is a dynamic poet and mentor I especially admire his ability to connect with each individual artist. I hope to be able to do the same when I engage with pupils. The whole workshop was inspirational.'
