Kabomo
Kabomo Vilakazi is a writer, poet, performer, musician, actor, workshop facilitator, director and producer. He has performed at major venues, events and festivals across the world. Kabomo is founder and director of the highly successful spoken word and music festival, A Dreamer's Scenery, which has hosted an array of artists, from different genres, including HHP, MXO, Sliq Angel, Lira, Ramesh, Fortune, Zubz, Feela Sista, Kojo, Flo, Afurakan, Common Man, Maakomela Manaka, Dj Euphonik, Naked DJ, C-live.
At the last festival, Kabomo hosted the live cd recording of the acclaimed poet, Lebo Mashile. He was assistant director and performer at the Urban Voices Spoken Word and Music festival 2004 which also featured the crème of international and African artists.
He co-wrote, co-produced, directed and acted in 'The Streets have Lips' at The Market Theatre, with the Seven Poetry Collective. His play 'Frozen Moments' received critical acclaim at the Grahamstown Arts Festival and Wits Theatre. He is due to publish his debut book of poetry and short stories this year.
He's had many hit songs on radio like the one he recorded with Generations' actor Clint Brink and Ramesh called 'Get Enuff' accompanied by the popular Akin Omotoso. Kabomo, through his company, has written, performed, produced and recorded. He produced, and is musical director for, Lebo Mashile's debut album, contributed on production and is musical director for Unathi Nkanyi and Hip Hop Pantsula. He has written and/or appeared as guest for artists like Tshepo Tshola, Ramesh, Flabba, Bafixhile, Zulu Mobb, Hidden Force, H20, Abom'Rapper, Thembi Seete, Nemza, Infa, Amu, Zoe, Relo, Bozza, Jerah, Dj Pepsi, Nothende and Hip Hop Pantsula. He is now artist manager through his company Kabomo Productions for Flabba, Hidden Force, H20, Amu, Shimani, Gang of Instrumental and Navio. He has held workshops on life skills and writing, has adjudicated poetry and performances, and speaks regularly to young people on how to find your voice as an artist.
He is currently: working on his debut album with Gallo Records; co-editing a hip hop website called HarambeAfrica; directing a company that is bringing Oseanlade to South Africa; running a poetry and creative writing project at the University of Johannesburg; and putting on the Jozi Hip-hop Festival with Metro FM's Bad Boy T. His current passion is in the television and film industry - where he is writing, workshopping and researching for Black Bench Productions as Creative Director with Tony and Sthandiwe Kgoroge. Kabomo is currently chief editor for Y magazine.
