Matthews D Wilson

Matthews D Wilson (Stage name MaWilla) is a storyteller based in Gaborone.

 

'The first time I got on stage was in form one [primary school] and we acted out a few chapters from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Thereafter, performing became part of my life. My first job was for Mambo Arts Commune, where apart from being a Programme Officer, I also took to the stage. Storytelling was introduced to me and my fellow artists through a workshop by one of South Africa's great story tellers. Since then, I have performed in various Maitisong festivals, and some Schools around the country. I have always enjoyed telling stories with the accompaniment of a mbira (setinkane).

 

I am currently working for the National Youth Council and, though I haven't performed for some time, I have been interacting a lot with young and up-coming artists'. Matthews D Wilson
