'I think my role [within PIV] will be to guide the children, give them reassurance and confidence, telling them that it's okay to take risks, to make mistakes, to be wildly artistic and in the process to find one's own voice. Sharing demands good communication and as I visit the schools and interact with the children and their teachers and friends I know I will learn a lot in the process. My wish is to share with the children what I have learnt from other writers, from the Crossing Borders programme and from other spheres where my writing has taken me.
It is my hope that besides making the time enjoyable for both the students and myself, I will also inspire one or two students to pursue full-time writing or performing'. Raisdon Baya
Raisdon Baya on Power In The Voice
The workshop with Charlie Dark was an eye-opener. It literally opened doors and windows that I never thought could be opened. From my comfort zone I was taken to space I wouldn't have felt comfortable on any other day. I found myself learning skills on poetry writing and performance and even standing before an audience and performing poetry. This is one experience that will always linger at the back of my mind. A sweet, colourful stain that I'm proud to wear like a tattoo as I go into school to share the knowledge I got from this marvellous man who claims to have a poetry school called "The Dark School of Poetry".'
